The Berserker by Jenika Snow

https://amzn.to/2SE5e4E
Greta

Berserkers.

They were known to be the fiercest of all Norse warriors, charging into battle in a wild frenzy, no protection except the weapon they held in their hand.

Said to have the spirit of a wild animal inside of them, they were feared … revered.
And I had fallen in love with one.

Calder

I was a wanderer, a free spirit. I was paid to track and hunt, to kill. It’s what I did, how I survived. And I loved every minute of it.

But I found myself going to the same village because of one person … Greta.

I shouldn’t want her. She’s far too innocent for the likes of me, more animal, more feral than the fiercest of Vikings. But I can’t stop myself from being drawn to her.

And then she’s taken from me.

I’ll track her, hunt her down and bring her back. But that’s not all I’ll do.

Once Greta is back in my arms, I’m claiming her and never letting her go.

Warning: This story is totally wild and unrealistic. It holds no actual historical facts and is purely for reading enjoyment in all its craziness. It’s filthy and sexy, features a totally over-the-top hero who only has eyes for one woman, and he'll do whatever it takes to make her his. If you didn’t like Vikings before now, that’s about to change. *wink*

Sometimes this is just the kind of book that you need. It’s kind of like a sharp, satisfying shot of espresso when you’ve been drinking a lot of cappuccinos and lattes.

At just 66 pages long - I devoured this book in one sitting and felt fully satisfied once I hit the end. You’re gripped from the start and there are no slow parts or much back story, making this a real page turner.

Despite the short length - you easily get to know the characters and root for them. Oh, except for the bad guy - I happily hated him and was hoping for his comeuppance for his dastardly deeds! Greta was a sweet, shy girl but she was no pushover. She wasn’t a dumb, damsel in distress that needed saving by a big, strong, sexy warrior. But since there’s a big, strong, sexy warrior who wants her with a fierce passion and wants to save her - what’s a girl to do but let him?

I love it when a strong, silent man - especially one who feels unworthy of the love of a good woman - finds his match and his happiness. Calder was such a man and I was so pleased for him to get his happy ever after! Much pleased sighing.

I wondered if the sex scenes would just be tacked on at the end of the action almost as an aside - since our couple aren’t properly introduced until the start of the story. I was happy that they weren’t but, to be honest, when they’re this good - who really cares where in the story they come!?

I’m not a fan of anal sex so normally just skip these parts in a book. Unfortunately for me - it was the epilogue that contained these scenes so skipping them wasn’t really an option as you know how much I adore an epilogue! I would love it if I could find a filthy, sexy book that didn’t think anal was the ultimate step in intimacy - but that’s just a personal thing.

The author herself mentions that this is a quick and dirty, wham-bam sort of book. While she says it doesn’t focus on historical accuracy - I was still pleased that none of the characters were texting each other or using zips or what not. It might not be true to the period but it’s still done with some thought which makes me happy.

Overall this is a quick, espresso shot of a read - short, sharp, sexy and fun. Definitely a good choice to keep things interesting. 4 stars.

Lady Sophie's Midnight Seduction by Dorothy McFalls

http://amzn.to/295Q4NX
Lady Sophie, a self-avowed spinster, has been happy with her independence for many years...that is until Lord Benton-Black enters her world. Now she finds her nights haunted by this man who is determined to seduce her and make her his wife.

------------------------

This was a short story that I counted at around 25 pages long so will only take you about 20 minutes from beginning to end.

Despite its short length I decided I liked the main characters and their relationship with each other. This was an erotic story and while it was steamy - it really didn't sizzle or heat up the pages overly much.

Having said that, the writing was fun (any book that features the word 'zounds!' gets points from me!) and I liked the characters, their interactions and the conclusion.

For a short, historical story that's not too expensive, you can't go wrong with this one. 4 stars.

The Headmaster's Confession by Laurel Bennett

http://amzn.to/29aZNc0
A virgin, a rake, Regency England... pleasure.

Our hero finds himself in trouble when Miss Winters is sent to his office for punishment. Is he strong enough to withstand her youthful innocence and passion?

------------------------

This is a very short and sexy, erotic tale and the first that I have read by Laurel Bennett. It's the same story as The Headmaster's Fall but this time seen through the eyes of the headmaster rather than Miss Winters.

At only 17 pages long the book is more of an encounter rather than a full story. Having said that, the writing was very good, the situations hot and I enjoyed it very much. The twist at the end is both welcome and handled well; it made me like the story much more.

Overall, if you're looking for a hot, 10 minute read then I would recommend this to you. 4 stars.

Johnny Loves Krissy by KyAnn Waters

http://amzn.to/29lWFXw
Kristina Taylor's biological clock just went off. She has endometriosis. Now “who's your baby's daddy” just took on a completely new meaning. A brilliant plan for conception includes her hot best friend Johnny Huston. Taking him to bed won’t be a hardship—if she can only get him to play by her rules. After all, she wants to maintain their friendship. Not easy if he ends up being the best sex of her life.

Knock her up? Krissy has to be crazy. Or is she? Johnny has loved her since high school. Her plan might not include life after baby. His does. But how is he going to show her how good they can be together with all her rules—no kissing, no touching, no caressing. He can make love to her, but she’s determined not to enjoy it. To hell with that and to hell with her rules. He’s determined to show her friendship is the best foundation for a relationship.

But there are always complications…

With Johnny, Krissy is afraid to look to the future. Right now, she can’t get enough of the present, and she dreads the thought of losing what she’s had with him in the past.

------------------------

I was in the mood for a light, erotic tale and as I enjoy the storyline where friends fall in love I thought this one sounded perfect.

Almost from the start I realised that this story wasn't going to hit the right notes with me. Both our main characters were of college age and acted like it. Their priorities certainly weren't the same as if they had been a little older or more mature. There's nothing wrong with that but it made me dubious about whether they were making choices that could last in the long run.

I didn't really find either of the main characters likeable or relatable, either. Johnny was fair but Krissy just didn't do it for me. She was touted as a slim, gorgeous girl with oversized surgically enhanced breasts and her personality came across as childish, demanding and unsympathetic. The pair were constantly playing games with each other or creating conflict that a simple conversation could have sorted out - very frustrating.

Now onto the sex. Perhaps because of my points above, I found the sex completely unsatisfying despite there being a lot of it. It was a little tawdry and I got bored with them boinking, not boinking etc etc. There was also Johnny's fixation with Krissy's 'ass' which could only lead to one thing. This doesn't do it for me at all and even so, was written in a way that made me feel quite uncomfortable.

Good points about this book are that it's short and fairly inexpensive. Apart from that the elements just didn't work for me and I can't recommend it. 1 star.

Kidnapped for Christmas by Evangeline Anderson

http://amzn.to/29oRRAV
Plus-sized and practical Jillian Marks is the responsible one in her family. She got all the common sense and her little sister Sabrina got all the skinny genes. When Sabrina plans a custom kinky kidnapping as a Christmas present for herself, Jillian tries to talk her out of it but her ditzy sister won’t listen. Muscular and intense Kyle Stephens is a Dom who is looking for a permanent sub—a curvy woman who can submit in the bedroom but still think for herself. He takes Sabrina’s file but mistakenly ’naps the wrong sister, grabbing Jillian instead of Sabrina. Now Jillian is bound and gagged in a dungeon, learning to submit to the man of her dreams who has her kidnapped for Christmas.

------------------------

I liked the idea of this kinky Christmas tale despite being not particularly into BDSM and I'm glad to say that I actually really enjoyed it.

Despite having a slightly odd premise the author did a fantastic job of never making what was going on seem seedy or disturbing. Similarly, the fact that Jillian was essentially kept against her will was handled well and her change of heart and subsequent submission felt believable and erotic.

Jillian and Kyle were both likeable characters and I thought the pair had fantastic chemistry and were clearly made for each other. This was a fantasy erotic tale so we do have lots of sex and naughty words which may not be to everyone's taste but there's nothing particularly risqué, just a little kinky. Similarly there was some anal play but not too much of it so it's easily skipped over if, like me, that's not your thing.

This is essentially a short story that doesn't take too long to finish. I really liked the author's writing style and for being an erotic tale about domination and submission I found the story surprisingly cute and sweet! Jillian's realisation of herself as well as finding a man to accept her the way she is was fun to read. Overall if you're looking for a hot and sexy Christmas tale then you can't go wrong with this one.
