BLOG TOUR: Kiss Me Again by Emma Hart

https://amzn.to/33YaDZH
WANTED: ROOMMATE. Must be tidy, polite, and absolutely not my brother's hot as sin best friend.

I have no idea why I said yes.

Maybe I'd had one too many wines. Maybe I'd done it accidentally. Maybe I'd been sleep-texting.

One thing I know for sure is this: I absolutely do not want Ethan Hawkins in my apartment, up in my business, taking over my space.

Yet he's here. Moving his stuff into my spare bedroom. Sending a wave of panty-melting, musky man-scent my way every time he walks past me.

Here's the thing.

We don't get along--at all. We never have, and I don't think we're going to start now that we're under one roof.

There's also that little issue where I'm kinda, sorta, totally in love with him...

Uh-oh.

Title: Kiss Me Again
Author: Emma Hart
Series: Kiss Me Series, Book 3
Pages: 161
Genre(s): Contemporary, US, romcom, romantic comedy
Hot Buttons: /

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Emma Hart is, undisputedly, the queen of sass. Her heroines are unashamedly sarcastic, sassy and a little bit weird - while her heroes are sexy, kind and 100% get behind their girls’ quirks. And as you can guess, this story is no different.

Kiss Me Again is the third (and final?) book in the Kiss Me series (after Kiss Me Not and Kiss Me Tonight) featuring a trio of best friends and their journey to happily ever after. (I wouldn’t mind reading Leo’s story, if it’s in the works!) While each book does stand alone, we have been teased about Ethan and Ava’s relationship since the first book. And there are several things that might be confusing (or at the very least not as funny) if you haven’t read the first couple of books - things like Boris the raccoon and the flashing granny, for example!

We meet Ava on the day that Ethan’s moving into her apartment. As I mentioned, she’s got a mouth on her…and she’s also on her period! That was a lot and it took me a couple of chapters to not feel that she was unnecessarily mean! It’s not that I didn’t identify with her - I probably identified with her too much. She’s open and honest about who she is - and doesn’t care what others think about her. She’s who I would probably be if I wasn’t scared that people would come for me if I was always saying what I was thinking!

After those first couple of chapters, the book - and Ava and Ethan’s relationship - really comes into its own. The roommate wars is clever and hilarious. It also allows our couple to bicker and fight but still enjoy each other’s company. It was amusing that all their friends, and we as readers, can see through the whole ‘we hate each other’ schtick! I laughed with pity every time one of them would try to convince someone else of their dislike!

The progression of the relationship was fun and I did get those little butterflies in my stomach when they inevitably gave in and kissed. Sigh. However other than that kiss, it’s not until the end that we get any proper mattress bouncing. That’s not a complaint - just an observation, by the way!

I’m going to be honest and admit that I was toying between 4 and 5 stars for this book. I finally settled on 5 as, although there were one or two things that slightly irked me, they didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book or the love story overall. Plus, I love Emma Hart and her writing. Her books leave me with that happy, content feeling. She’s like chocolate - I just want to feast on her stories and yet I still always want more and more and more!

If you’re a fan of Emma Hart, or just need a fast paced, cute and quirky romance to make you feel good, then I would recommend this book to you. 5 stars for another great book.

BLOG TOUR: Absolute Pleasure by Erika Wilde

https://amzn.to/33NwMK2

What would you sacrifice to save your family’s legacy?

Meet Hunter Wilder, a man that is terrified of happily ever after.

Hunter is used to dominating, taking control of situations and bending them to his will. He may live in a New York castle, but he’s no prince. Cursed by loss, Hunter is a closed book with an emptiness that he can’t escape.

Until he meets her.

Ella Darien may be gorgeous and driven, but her Cinderella story is more than it appears. The death of her father left her with a wicked stepmother intent on sabotaging the business her parents worked so hard to create.

One enchanted night of all-consuming and absolute pleasure brings two broken souls together. With a new version of their future finally in sight, a promise kept might cost them everything.

Will this Cinderella find her prince, or will they watch their happily ever after disappear at the stroke of midnight?

ABSOLUTE PLEASURE is a modern, sinfully seductive take on Cinderella. It is a stand-alone, second-chance fairy-tale romance. No cheating. No cliffhangers.

Title: Absolute Pleasure
Author: Erika Wilde
Series: Dirty Sexy Fairytales Book 2
Pages: 268
Genre(s): Contemporary, US
Hot Buttons: death of parent (before the book begins) <-- highlight to reveal (may contain spoilers)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had no idea, until I went to write this review, that Erika Wilde is an alter-ego of Janelle Denison - one of my favourite authors from back in the good ol’ days of Harlequin/Mills & Boon Blaze. That explains why I was drawn to this tale, and very much enjoyed the writing style.

Absolute Pleasure is the second in Ms Wilde’s Dirty Sexy Fairy Tale series, taking its cues roughly from the story of Cinderella. It takes place at roughly the same time (and a little after) the events from the first book, Total Surrender (which is a take on Beauty and the Beast, if you’re interested!). The stories are somewhat interlinked yet still stand completely alone from each other. It does do a good job of making you want to read the first book in the series - and the next, which will hopefully be Tempest’s story.

This is the story of Hunter and Ella. Having met at a fairy tale ball, Hunter is instantly smitten with the gorgeous Ella - even more so when he hears her being maligned by the wicked stepmother and stepsisters.

I loved Hunter and Ella as a couple. Loved even more the fact that Ella, while delicate in some ways, really was a strong, capable woman. Hunter’s usually a one night and done, kind of guy - so when Ella got the jump on him and said she was done first - I all but cheered! There was definitely chemistry between our pair (and sex, obviously) but I do get a bit peeved when characters talk about how filthy and dirty they are and then don’t really back it up. The sex was hot and steamy - don’t get me wrong. And it’s not that I’m looking for depraved sex in my romances - but there’s no need for characters to go on about how naughty they are when they’re really just the same kind of naughty as all of the rest of us!

The Cinderella aspect of the story is well done, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. It all felt real, rather than a fairytale, and the characters acknowledging the parallels in their story made me smile.

While I really enjoyed the story - Ms Wilde/Denison has a writing style that is inherently readable and engaging - there were a few points that stopped me from giving this story the full 5 stars (other than my annoyance with there not being a proper scale of sexual naughtiness, apparently!). Without giving anything away, I thought the reason for Elle’s sickness was a bit far-fetched. Even more far-fetched was the way that the stepmother/sister storyline was resolved. Perhaps I’m just bloodthirsty but I want people to pay, dammit! I’m also never fond of a hero or heroine whose previous ‘love of their life’ has died. This was a big sticking point for Hunter, in theory, but he sure did bat it away when Elle came on the scene. Folk can be afraid of, or unwilling to do, commitment without having some major issues in their past. Just saying.

But despite all that, as I said, I very much enjoyed this book. I’ve got the first book in the series on my TBR pile and I’m also very much looking forward to the next in the series, too. And now that I know that Erika Wilde is Janelle Denison, I’m also away to search Ms Wilde’s back catalogue to see what I might have missed. 4 very enjoyable stars.

EXCERPT!

Elle’s prince charming stepped forward until he was standing right in front of her, so close she could breathe in the scent of his woodsy cologne, could see the darkening of his golden eyes and the now captivating smile curving his lips that did crazy, arousing things to her female hormones.  Authoritative and Intense was an incredibly hot look on him, but this charismatic version gradually emerging had the ability to sweep her off her feet.

“I’m Hunter Wilder,” he introduced himself, and tipped his head curiously.  “And you are?”

So incredibly smitten. Her tongue suddenly felt tied, and while he was the epitome of confident male sophistication, she had to struggle not swoon like a Disney princess in front of him. “My name is Elle.”

He raised a dark brow.  “And your last name?”

She bit her bottom lip in debate, which didn’t go unnoticed by him as he candidly looked at her mouth like he wanted to devour it.  The thought sent a jolt of lustful need pulsing deep and low, settling in all those dormant places that had forgotten what it felt like to be wanted and desired.

There was something incredibly magical about this moment, about tonight and this enigmatic man who’d made the decision to stop her from leaving when he easily could have watched her go.  This evening was all about fairy tales where anything could happen, and she wanted that enchanted, mysterious feeling to remain because tomorrow, her less than appealing reality still awaited her.  And she was fairly certain that a wealthy, dynamic man like Hunter Wilder wouldn’t be interested in a woman who had a wealth of issues and problems currently plaguing her life.

With that thought in mind, she kept her reply flirtatious, and her full identity anonymous. “Tonight, it’s just Elle.”

“Okay, Just Elle,” he teased, his voice infused with amusement as he extended his bent arm to her in a gallant gesture.  “Will you be my date for the evening and accompany me to the Wilder Way ball?”

Determined to have fun with this man and enjoy her evening, wherever it might lead, she nodded and slipped her hand into the crook of his arm. “It would be my pleasure to be your date for the evening.”

A slow, sinful smile eased up the corners of his kissable mouth as he slid a big, warm hand over the one resting on his forearm to hold it there—as if she’d even consider letting him go.  “Trust me, beautiful girl, before this evening is over, I have a feeling the pleasure is going to be all mine.”

The dark, forbidden promises glinting in his eyes stole her breath and sent a delicious, decadent heat cascading through her veins.  Oh, Lord.  Elle sincerely hope so.

BLOG TOUR: The Second We Met by Maya Hughes

Dear Jerk Across the Street, sorry for accidentally walking in on you and catching an eyeful of your—equipment. And hard pass on the open invitation to join you in the shower “anytime”, A-hole.

That’s the note I should’ve written. Instead I sent a pleasant and apologetic version.

Had I known Phoenix “Nix” Russo would’ve been the neighbor from hell, I’d have told him right where he could shove my words.

Nix is the big man on campus with everyone lined up at his games to make sure he knows it. Sure, he’s got piercing green eyes, abs that don’t quit and a smile that could set fire to a set of panties from a hundred yards away, but he’s also the biggest pain in my ass.

Dear Pink-Haired Menace, learn how to take a joke and stop being such a kill-joy...

Elle Masterson called the cops on one of my parties—again. My sweet talking usually gets me out of trouble, but this time it got me into a nice pair of silver handcuffs. Now I’m on a reputation rehab tour with a stop at a spring break community service project.

Guess who’s my new boss?

Now we’re shoulder to shoulder, sweaty, tired and…she’s not anything like I expected. There might just be a heart under that hardass exterior. She’s invading my dreams and I can’t shake the feeling she’s the key to unlocking a piece of me that I’ve hidden away.

It’s only a matter of time until she finds out why I’m really here.

Maybe I can break through her walls and into her heart before that happens...one screw at a time.

Title: The Second We Met
Author: Maya Hughes
Series: Fulton U Book 2
Pages: 328
Genre(s): Contemporary, US, New Adult
Hot Buttons: death of parent (when character was a child) <-- highlight to reveal (may contain spoilers)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New adult romance never really appealed to me until I discovered Maya Hughes. Now, I’m not sure what I would do without my fix of this genre - and more specifically, from Ms Hughes herself.

This is the second book in the Fulton U series. Nix first appeared in Reece and Seph’s book, The Perfect First, just as those two (and other faces from the Trojan’s football team) appear in this one. But fear not, both books stand completely alone. Although we are teased about those that came before - as well as those that will come after. But more on those later…

Nix and Elle are our couple in this book and I suppose it’s a case of enemies to lovers - and also sort-of opposites attract. Whichever way you look at it - our couple are perfect for each other. Once they stop fighting and bickering long enough to realise it.

Nix is an absolute sweetheart. He’s got such a big heart and is such a nice guy - you just want to wrap him up in a big ol’ hug. And only some of that hug is because he’s also a very good looking guy. Just ask all the girls on campus! He’s just too sweet to be mean to all the people that admire and look up to him. He’s also got a bit of a problem about his future. His worries about his health and what he really wants to do after graduation gives him a decent depth and makes you understand him all the more.

Elle is a slightly more intriguing character only because she’s not quite as inherently nice as Nix. She’s a bit snarky, a bit defensive and can be quite combative. And yet somehow Ms Hughes makes me like her from her first appearance on the page. Not only that, but she grows and learns throughout the book, realising her mistakes and understanding more about herself as we go through the book. I was totally cheering for her both individually and with Nix.

And as a couple the pair are so cute and relatable (and I’m saying that as someone who is sadly no longer a new adult!). There’s also enough hot and steamy sex to singe my kindle. Well, all that antagonism from the start of the book had to be channeled into another activity, obviously!

As I mentioned before, there are a lot of extra characters fleshing out this book. LJ and Marissa - best friends and nothing more - will likely get their own book soon (The Fourth Time Charm). And what exactly is Johannsen doing hanging around in the street? But of course there’s Berk and Jules coming next. Those dirty notes and the feels I was getting from those two from a few short descriptions nearly killed me. I cannot wait for their story.

Maya Hughes never fails to deliver a great story. Her writing is so fresh and I just want to devour every word she writes. Her characters speak to me and live in a world that I want to be in - just to wallow in the love and friendship that Ms Hughes writes so well. First time reader or long time fan, I highly recommend Maya Hughes and this book in particular, to you. 5 stars from me.

Maya Hughes can often be found sneaking in another chapter while hiding in the bathroom from her kids! :-) I’m a romance writer who loves taking inspiration from everyday life, namely my husband and biggest fan. Inspiration also strikes when I hear a song, meet someone new or daydream while at soccer practice.

I’m the mom of three little ones, the wife to an amazing husband and also work full time. Some of my favorite things are cinnamon rolls, white wine, laughing until I can’t breathe and traveling with my family.

EXCERPT!

“Are you always so charming, B + E?”

“There’s a lot to get done this week and I don’t have time to hold anyone’s hand or break out the hose when you two are going at it behind the work shed.”

“Way to jump nine hundred steps ahead. If there’s anyone who’d be banging someone it would probably be the woman who has enough condoms to last most people half a century. Or are you all out of those? Been busy lately.”

All I was looking for was a chill spring break, but she had to push buttons like she was manning a submarine.

“You’re such a cocky asshole. And you know what? Yeah, I’ve been really busy. You haven’t heard? Everyone on the block has had at least three rounds, but still nowhere near your manwhore levels I’m sure.”

“This manwhore doesn’t kiss and tell.” I puckered my lips, which were met with the cold, hard metal of a hammer shoved up to my mouth.

Could’ve been worse. She could’ve used the claw end.

“Don’t trip and fall over your ego and end up with a hole in your head.” She dragged her hands over her face like the world was perched on her shoulders. “Listen, be careful and pay attention. We don’t need anyone getting hurt and it screwing up the work permits and stuff for the site. Wouldn’t want to injure the campus golden boy.”

Her barely contained eye roll was all I got before she shoved a pair of work gloves at me. Her about face from claws out to a hint of actual concern threatened me with whiplash.

Was there ever someone more confusing and infuriating than Elle?
