RELEASE BLITZ: Making Whoopie by Erin Nicholas

https://amzn.to/2Zn4B45
This marriage of convenience is about to get sticky.

Getting hitched for the health insurance is not Jocelyn Asher’s idea of romance.

But the hospital quote has really frosted her cookies, and suddenly, “I’m rich. We should just get married,” sounds a whole lot more swoony.

Especially when the man proposing is this gorgeous. And takes her to parties featuring champagne and petit fours. She’s a sucker for anything with bubbles or icing. And just like that she finds herself married to a near stranger.

Grant Lorre is usually allergic to spontaneity.

So why did he ask the beautiful small-town baker he had a one-stand with to marry him? Somehow watching her lick batter off a whisk--not a euphemism--made a wedding and a little fraud seem like a sweet idea.

They’ll just play house and make some whoopie--pies, of course--for a few months and then move on with their separate lives. Until then, bring on the cream filling. And that is a euphemism.

But as things heat up even outside of the kitchen, they quickly realize there’s no recipe to follow when it comes to love.

COCKY HERO CLUB: Dirty Dealer by Kacey Shea

https://amzn.to/31oYhvv

On paper I have it all. Wealth, security, and a collection of vehicles that spark envy, even amongst LA’s rich and famous. Money is all I ever wanted, but now that I have it in spades, I’m restless.

For the first time in my life, I want things cash can’t procure. I want a real relationship. Beauty and brains. A salacious little minx who isn’t afraid to call me out. My equal, in and out of the bedroom.

The problem is I have no clue where to find a woman like that.

Imagine my luck when I come upon a curvy, gorgeous maiden in distress, stranded on the side of I-10 like a mirage fashioned from my deepest desires. It’s fate. Kismet.

Only she isn’t impressed. Not by my money, my power, or my ability to make all her dreams come true. Hell, she won’t even accept my ride without an argument. But I’m not giving up. She doesn’t know who she’s dealing with, and I’m not afraid to play dirty.

Delightful Dealer

5 stars

Dirty Dealer is an opposites attract, temporary roommates, contemporary romance standalone inspired by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s Cocky Bastard. It's published as part of the Cocky Hero Club world, a series of original works inspired by Keeland and Ward's novels.

And so to my review… this is the first book I’ve read by Kacey Shea and it was a great introduction to her, and her writing. I will definitely be checking out more of her books, especially since I’ve realised she’s written/writing books with characters who got cameos in Dirty Dealer.

Normally in a book, it’s the heroine that I really connect with and root for. Don’t get me wrong, Rachel was a great character. She was strong, sassy and had principles that she wasn’t willing to compromise. She was also happy in her own skin - a lot of the time where you read about a “curvy” girl (which could mean any number of sizes, really) then she’s slightly hung up on that fact. Not so Rachel. She was a confident woman who knew her worth and got hers. She was still vulnerable and I’m always going to love any heroine who ponders whether a new man in her life might be a serial killer. Same, girl. Same.

However, it was Jude that caught my attention and kept it to the end. I love an alpha male - and while Jude definitely had his alpha qualities, he had a fantastically vulnerable side, too. Or maybe you could also call them boyish qualities. His love of lollipops, his almost giddy delight at succeeding at his job and his unashamed emotion in the face of possibly losing Rachel. I can’t imagine it’s easy to write a hero with both the strong qualities we all love, but also having the vulnerabilities that make him believable, likeable and downright wonderful. I loved Jude so. Okay, I might not have loved his name but everything else…

This was somewhat of a slow burn story. There’s lots of build up to our couple finally getting together. It’s not a case of them having to admit feelings - they both know that there’s a connection and chemistry there, as do we as readers. It’s just about timing being right. There are many - many - times where we’re finally about to have the pair kiss, or take things to the next level, when there’s a most inconvenient interruption. I admit to shouting “oh come on!” at my kindle towards the last of those interruptions. Thankfully, they did ‘come on’ which made me very happy. And speaking of happy, the scene where Rachel comes across Jude on the couch… well, let’s just say I could have done with that scene being a whole lot longer. Wowza!

As the book is set in the world of Cocky Bastard, Chance and Aubrey from that book do appear in this one, too. I’ve never actually read Cocky Bastard and I didn’t feel that I lost anything from not having done so. I am intrigued to pick up Chase and Aubrey’s own story, though.

This book is written in the first person, present tense, with alternating viewpoints of both Jude and Rachel over 52 chapters. I feel that worked well, and worked well with Ms Shea’s snappy and fast writing style. I was hooked from the first page and was quickly drawn into the story of Rachel and Jude. As I said before, I really loved the characters, the chemistry and the story in general - I even got a few laughs from it. All in all an excellent book in the Cocky Hero Club and an excellent book all round. I look forward to reading more from Kacey Shea. 5 stars and a recommendation from me.

He swore he wouldn’t touch her, but she’s about to test his restraint.

Prim and proper secretary Melodie Turner has been in lust for her boss for years... and she's finally going to do something about it.  P.I. Cole Sommers might be able to barely resist her sexy new attitude and flirtatious behavior, but when she takes a cue from his current case and decides to seduce Cole’s mind with highly provocative letters, she knows his body won't be very far behind...

Cole is definitely in over his head.  He's got more cases than he can handle, but all he can think about is taking his secretary to bed, turning her over his knee, and showing her what happens to naughty girls who don’t behave. At every turn, Melodie is there, taunting him, teasing him, making him burn with a deep, undeniable need.  But Cole promised her father that he’d protect her—even from himself—which means she’s off-limits.

Only he hadn't counted on being the target of Melodie's irresistible sensual assaults.  Nor had he planned to lose his hardened heart in the battle...

Everything I love in a quick, hot romance

5 stars

I have been looking forward to Cole and Melodie’s story since they appeared in the first book in this series, Hot and Sexy. That book teased an unrequited love between the sensible and efficient secretary, Melodie, and her grumpy, by-the-book (clueless) PI boss, Cole. But the whole love story of the pair starts in this book so you don’t need to have read the first book to read, enjoy and understand this one. You should go and grab it anyway, as it’s every bit as good as this one.

I loved Melodie as a character. Although she’s initially quite mousy, I felt that was more in appearance than in her heart. In her heart, she was a naughty little vixen. And when she decides to make some changes in her life, and go after what she really wants (with a little help from an unfortunately fictional self-help book, The Good Girl’s Guide to Being Bad) boy, does she go all in! New wardrobe, new attitude, new ways to torture Cole.

Cole is my hero catnip. He’s big, broody, gruff and he knows his own mind and what he wants. Which makes it so much more wonderful to watch him first having “impure” thoughts about his secretary (both before and after her transformation). He really, really doesn’t want to but ha ha - he has no say when it comes to love and Melodie! And if it sounds like I like to see my heroes tortured - you’d be completely right!

This is Erika Wilde so of course this book is super sexy. Not only do we get the delightful shenanigans between Cole and Mel - including one time in a hot tub - but because of a case that they’re working on, there are also a few erotic love notes written mostly to Cole from Mel. While that was also hot, it was the adorably romantic note that Cole writes towards the end that really melted my heart. When a grumpy broody hero falls, he falls hard.

As always, Ms Wilde writes in a style that is so effortless, you can forget you’re actually reading rather than just being part of the story itself. She combines superb pacing - you never get bored with this book, and witty banter and dialogue with a perfect blend of sex and love. So now all we need do is wait for the third in the series, Hot and Bothered, featuring bad boy Noah. I can’t wait!
