Asking for Trouble by Amy Andrews

https://amzn.to/3d6dMv9
After three years in Credence trying to fade into the background, Della Munroe is sick of being invisible. She’s ready to take back control. To live a little. Hell, she’s ready to see what this dating fuss is all about. And if that means she has to download Tinder and date every guy in Colorado, then she’s up for it.

After her first disastrous attempt, she decides navigating online dating would be better with a wingman, and there’s no better person for it than Tucker Daniels. After all, he is a man. And he owns a bar, which practically makes him a relationship expert. He’s also her older brother’s best friend. Yes, she may have the teeniest tiny inconvenient crush on him, but he’s always had her back.

Tucker Daniels would rather eat broken glass than watch Della go out with a bunch of douchebag dudes only out for one thing. Unfortunately, he’s never been able to say no to her, and before he knows it, Tucker’s not only vetting her dates—he’s teaching her to drive, helping her move out, and buying her a puppy!

But when Della wants him to tutor her in more intimate arts, he freaks out. Because this little sister is strictly off-limits, and saying yes to Della is asking for a whole lot of trouble.

Title: Asking for Trouble
Author: Amy Andrews
Series: Credence Colorado (Book 3)
Pages: 400
Genre(s): Contemporary, US
Hot Buttons: our heroine suffered an abusive marriage including sexual, physical and mental abuse (happens before the start of the book but may be triggering to some) <-- highlight to reveal (may contain spoilers)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gah! How does Amy Andrews do it? She writes such complex, compelling characters that are so worthy of finding their happily ever afters, that you fall in love with them as they fall in love with each other.

This is the third book in the Credence Colorado series although it completely stands alone. In fact, while the couples from the first 2 books (Nothing But Trouble and The Trouble with Christmas) are name-checked, they don’t appear in this book. Although many other characters - and many new ones - from the quirky town do feature. But fear not if you, like me, hate a name dump of characters - it’s not like that. And the people of Credence are ‘real’ people with quirks - not ridiculous parodies of irritating schmucks that sometimes appear in novels as the meddling townsfolk.

But our book isn’t about them - it’s about Della and Tucker.

Della has had a hard life; Harrowing in many respects. While there’s never any truly gory detail - and the book happens 4 years after her rescue from her abusive situation - I can imagine that this detail may be triggering to some. For me, it just made me like Della all the more. Seeing how far she’d come and how strong she was - even if she didn’t know it herself. She was such an inspiration and I was her biggest cheerleader from the first page to the last. She put me to shame with her bravery and I admired her big time!

Tucker. *Sighs* What can I say - I’m a sucker for a Tucker. I can imagine all the girls sighing as he strides by in his checked shirt, boots and cowboy hat, looking like a deliciously dirty lumberjack. But he’s got a heart of gold. And how he loves and cares for Della… If it wasn’t so beautiful - I might cry. I probably did cry, if I’m honest.

Della and Tucker are just perfect together - and more than just sexually. But sexually they are hotter than the red spot on Jupiter. There was definitely some pearl clutching and face-fanning going on as I read the steamy scenes. It might take a while for the pair to take the plunge - but by God they more than make up for it when they finally do get going.

There’s definitely a build-up to the full-on sex scenes but there’s also no scrimping on the hot moments even before that. I’m trying to forget about dirty Rosemary, the saucy 80-year old, but the trip to the sex shop was both hilarious and really interesting. I’m thinking I need to up my game some. But maybe not to full-on Tinder. While that was also illuminating and hilarious - it was also down-right terrifying!

Other things to love about this book - apart from the awesomely swoony love story - the triple bromance of Arlo, Drew and Tucker. Who doesn’t love some boy banter? Betty the Cavalier King Charles - my own ovaries nearly exploded when Tuck arrived at the door with her tucked under his arm; I’m getting overheated just remembering it. But best of all is the humour. No, best of all is Ms Andrews’ writing in general. How she manages to make me feel like I’m not reading, but sitting down to catch-up with my bestest friend while she tells me a love story - is something I’m not quite sure how she manages. And as with hanging out with your girls, you’ll laugh, cry and tell each other all the juicy, dirty details. It’s utter perfection.

Whether you’re new to Credence, Colorado, or you’re like me and planning to move there - you will fall in love with this book and more importantly, Della and Tucker. Please give it a go - you will not be disappointed. 5 swoony stars.

CREDENCE, COLORADO SERIES:

BLOG TOUR: The Hookup Equation by Roxie Noir

https://amzn.to/2PEFsxR
Teach me everything.

My whole life, I’ve been a good girl. I follow rules like nobody’s business. I obey guidelines like I was born to it. Show me a line, and I’ll toe it.

I’m even a twenty-two-year-old virgin. Good is my middle name.

And then, I break one tiny little rule. Miniscule. Inconsequential.

Next thing I know, I’m trapped with an incredibly handsome stranger. He’s got eyes like cut emeralds, biceps that makes my head spin, and a smile that has me rethinking all my life choices.

We escape a bar bathroom together. We go on an impromptu date. We share the hottest kiss I’ve ever had, one that leaves me panting for more. We promise to see each other again.

Turns out, we see each other the next morning.

In my calculus class.

Which he’s teaching.

My handsome, sexy date is Professor Loveless, and we’ll be seeing each other plenty. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday all semester.

There’s no choice but to call it off. We both have too much at stake: I could lose my scholarship, and he could lose his entire career.

But I can’t call off the way I feel.

I can’t call off the way he looks when he rolls up his sleeves and explains imaginary numbers.

I can’t call off the heated glances, or the way our hands touch when I hand in my homework, or the memory of his body pressing against mine that night.

I’m a virgin.

He’s my professor.

And if we give in, it could cost us both everything.

But I’m so tired of being a good girl.

The Hookup Equation is a complete standalone romantic comedy with enough steam to fog your glasses.

Title: The Hookup Equation
Author: Roxie Noir
Series: Loveless Brothers (Book 4)
Pages: 402
Genre(s): Contemporary, US, Professor/Student
Hot Buttons: accident involving parent / difficult paternal relationship, sibling with significant drug issues, taboo relationship<---- Please highlight to reveal

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the fourth book in Roxie Noir’s Loveless Brothers series. It follows each of the five, smoking hot and deliciously adorable Loveless Brothers as they fall hard and deep with the loves of their lives. Each book is a standalone although, unsurprisingly, each brother and a host of other characters do appear across all the books. If you haven’t read any other books, I would still say you’d be fine reading this one. You won’t miss out on anything and you’ll get enough of a vibe about the other brothers and their partners to tempt you into reading more.

This book is about the youngest brother, newly anointed Professor Caleb Loveless who meets a girl in the men’s toilets and falls hard for her during their one, brief date. They arrange a second date but before that can take place they happen upon each other again. In class. Where he’s the professor and she his student. Well, that’s the end of that then!

And that’s what both decide. It’s the sensible thing to do after all. But the pair just cannot stay away from each other and while they try - there’s definitely a half-heartedness about the trying which leads to some ve-e-ry sexy moments. In the closed off staircase at the Hallowe’en organ concert? Who knew that would become a raging fantasy of mine all of a sudden? The whole teasing thing that we get from Ms Noir is hella hot - and most of that is nothing to do with getting the D and removing the V!

As I said, Caleb is the youngest brother although no less sexy than his older siblings. He seemed more serious and introspective than his more fun-loving brothers - and probably had the kind of personality you would expect from a professorial type (but fear not - I don’t mean in a stereotypical kind of way!). Caleb also had a secret that ran throughout the book but was removed from his story with Thalia. I understood this secret and logically I understand his feelings towards it - but in the world of a fictional and strong brood of brothers with a tight bond, I couldn’t really understand why it was such a big deal and that he couldn’t tell them. I also didn’t really think it added to the story - but that’s just me!

Thalia is a fantastic character and I loved her attitude, her smarts and her honest-to-God awkwardness, especially around Caleb. This is a girl that gets her guy by being her weird self and I really can get down with that. We also get some interesting story with Thalia away from (but still including Caleb). The stuff with her older brother was really quite sad - but still interesting to read *spoiler* and it will be extra awesome if Javier gets his own story*spoiler. And her relationship with Bastien thrilled me almost as much as those Loveless boys. Those two could bicker and banter like children and it was hilarious!

Despite the angsty thing this book has going on, Ms Noir writes in a way that I cannot get enough of. It’s so fresh and honest - like the way you would talk to your friends, or talk to yourself. It’s so absorbing that you almost forget you’re reading and become part of the story. I even almost told my mum what was happening with Caleb and Thalia as if they were real and friends of mine!

The book as a whole has a slightly different feel to the previous books in the series - probably mostly because it’s set in another town than the rest of the Loveless brothers live. We still get the quirky, teasing banter and the complete brotherly intrusion into each other’s business - but it’s got a different vibe all round, I’d say. Not better - not worse - just not the small town country atmosphere like the first three books in the series.

If could have, I would have given this book 4.5 stars. I don’t have any problem with the Professor / Student relationship (in this context and in a book, I might add!) although it was interesting to me how I felt my perception of Caleb and Thalia’s relationship, and perhaps the balance of power, alter once all was revealed. Without giving too much away, I spent much of the book anxious for the inevitable shoe dropping to occur. I didn’t like the outcome and wished things could have been tied up in a much more unrealistic way - but that’s really not why I’m reading romance. I still got my HEA and that’s why I settled on 5 stars instead of 4. And no matter what she writes, Roxie Noir is still one of my favourite and must-buy authors. I cannot wait for Seth’s story and I’m now adding Thalia’s brother to my wishlist along with Silas to get his own story.

BLOG TOUR: The Princess Plan by Julia London

https://amzn.to/2ReHu7x

Passion. Intrigue. Love.

London’s high society loves nothing more than a scandal. And when the personal secretary of the visiting Prince Sebastian of Alucia is found murdered, it’s all anyone can talk about, including Eliza Tricklebank. Her unapologetic gossip gazette has benefited from an anonymous tip off about the crime, forcing Sebastian to ask for her help in his quest to find his friend’s killer.

With a trade deal on the line and mounting pressure to secure a noble bride, there’s nothing more dangerous than a prince socialising with a commoner. Sebastian finds Eliza’s contrary manner as frustrating as it is seductive, but they’ll have to work together if they’re going to catch the culprit. And soon, as temptation becomes harder to ignore, it’s the prince who’ll have to decide what comes first—his country or his heart.

🍹 Scroll down for an exclusive recipe for Eliza's Royal Rum Punch! 🍹

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are a couple of things that would normally make me pass on this book: I don’t normally do Victoran set novels (this takes places in 1845) and it’s inspired by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s romance - which is so embarrassingly cringeworthy I just can’t. And while I’ve read a couple of Julia London’s stories before, I honestly can’t remember them, which says it all, apparently.

Thank goodness I ignored my own misgivings as this book was just fantastic!

The first thing I became aware of is how much I loved Eliza. I can imagine it takes great skill to write a quirky, opinionated and singular character such as Eliza and still make her funny and relatable rather than just downright annoying. I adored her and her bluntness. She’s who I think I would be if I was placed in an environment that was shiny and new - overwhelmed and genuinely enthusiastic about every little thing.

Likewise, Crown Prince Sebastian tugged at my heartstrings something rotten. Strong, arrogant and entitled, we learn that he’s actually a lonely man who yearns for someone to see him. Even when he was being a royal douche, I loved him and wanted to give him a big ol’ cuddle.

And I loved Eliza and Sebastian together. They start off on the wrong foot. Well, they start off on the right foot but Sebastian manages to forget that encounter. I think I was annoyed as Eliza by that fact! But they slowly move to friends, and then something more. It was a delight to read, and quite emotional as the pair began to realise that circumstances meant they could never be together. I admit it, I shed a wee tear. (Okay so I was sobbing - sue me!)

We also have a little bit of a murder mystery going on in the background of the book and love story. There are a few red herrings thrown our way, but it’s not really that difficult to figure out the culprit - but that’s really not the point. The murder is obviously just the catalyst to bring Eliza and Sebastian together; and it’s definitely more about the small intrigues and amusing situations that our couple find themselves in while attempting to solve the mystery. I enjoyed that element of the book even if it petered out towards the end as the conclusion to our romance came to the fore.

I’m always nitpicky about Americanisms in stories set in Britain. While this one does so well with most things - we do not call them sidewalks. We call them pavements. Always pavements. Otherwise, I was impressed by the scene setting and language as a whole.

This book pulled me in from the start and I loved every last second of reading it. I see that this is the first in a new series and I’m hoping we’ll get stories for Hollis, Caro and even Beck and Prince Leopold. And of course, I would love to see how Eliza and Sebastian are getting on back in Alucia - hopefully with 12 little ones running around them!

If you’re looking for a fun and interesting romance about a girl who doesn’t believe she’ll ever get her happily ever after, and a prince who simply wants to be seen as a man, then you’ll fall in love with this story as much as I did. 5 massive stars from me.

Eliza's Royal Rum Punch

Eliza sniffed at the punch. Then sipped it. Then imprudently downed it, draining the glass, because the punch was delicious. How tingly it made her feel!

Moments later, the footman suddenly appeared again and extended his nearly empty tray for her glass.

"Thank you," Eliza said sheepishly. "That was very good." She took one of the last glasses on his tray.

"Aye, madam. It's been amply mixed with rum."

Ingredients

One part light rum
One part dark rum
One part Triple Sec
Cointreau or apricot brandy
A dash of Grenadine
A teaspoon of lime juice
Three parts of freshly squeezed, chilled orange juice
Three parts of freshly squeezed, chilled pineapple juice
Crushed ice
Slice of pineapple and a cherry for garnish

Method:

Half-fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

Now add the white and dark rum, the Triple Sec, Cointreua and Grenadine - in that order.

Follow with the fruit juices.

Shake the mixture well, until the outside of the shaker starts to feel cold, then strain over the crushed ice into glasses.

Garnish and serve.

For that extra kick (and hey, it worked out for Eliza!) top with a dash of 151-proof rum!

Yum!
