A hot, funny brother’s best friend rom com… with sugar on top!
She's his best friend's little sister. He's known her all his life. He's practically part of the family. There is nothing either of them could do to surprise the other at this point.
Then she showed up in his bedroom in lingerie and asked him to take her V-card.
Okay, that was a surprise.
Aiden is pretty sure Zoe was equally surprised when he told her no.
To say that he didn't handle it well would be a massive understatement. Almost as massive as the amount of work he's going to have to do now to convince her that he wants her. Forever.
Right after he tells her that he's bought the company that's her bakery’s biggest competitor.
Maybe if he tells her he’s in love with her first, that will help sugarcoat the whole we're-rivals-in-business-now thing.
So, first "I'm in love with you", then "take off your clothes", then "I'm now your business adversary".
Piece of cake.

There’s no-one better at bringing romance in a small-town to life than Erin Nicholas. And of all of her stories that I’ve read - there are always my favourite of hers. Especially if there’s baked good involved. And there are often baked goods involved!
This is the first book in what’s set to be an amazing series about Appleby - said small town in the middle of Iowa. We’ve met most, if not all, of the folks who I’m hoping will get books of their own and I already love them all. But this book focuses on the love story of Aiden and Zoe - two people who have known each other their whole lives and know everything about the other. Or so they believe.
While this is technically a brother’s best friend / best friend’s little sister romance - it doesn’t come with the usual conflict since Cam (the older brother / best friend) doesn’t make much of an appearance in this book - and none at all in terms of interfering in the relationships between Aiden and Zoe. I liked the way that it was a bit different from other stories. I liked the way that both of our couple made a sudden shift-change realisation in their feelings for each other rather than one or both pining away for each other since birth! And then finding things out about each other - that they thought they knew so well - made their love story feel special.
Zoe wasn’t really what I expected. I expected sugary sweet and cute and naive. And while she is all those things, she’s also feisty, honest, goes after what she wants and doesn’t let people get away with treating her less than she deserves. Oh and she’s stubborn and holds a grudge with the best of them.
Aiden was a billionaire who was very committed to his plans and was sure that he knew the best course of action for all things. Oh how I love to see men like that proven wrong. Very, very wrong. That’s why it felt like Zoe was his perfect match as she shook up his ideas, his plans and even when he got what he ultimately wanted, she still managed to give him realisations about his feelings and how deep they were. It was swoonworthy.
And speaking of swoonworthy - there’s obviously all those scrumptious baked goods and treats, and obviously Ms Nicholas is known for her sexy times in her stories. So why not put the two together? It was delicious, dirty and a wee bit sticky - and I loved every minute of it. Having said that, Zoe and Aiden had chemistry whether they were just bantering or between the sheets!
As I mentioned, this is the first in a new series (Hot Cakes) and I’m already invested in the other books still to come. Aiden and Cam’s business partners are bound to get their own stories - in fact Dax is next up with Zoe’s best friend, Jane in Forking Around. But it’s Cam and Whitney’s story that’s already got me shaking with excitement. Second chance enemies to lovers? Oh yes, please!
This is definitely Erin Nicholas back to what she does best - small town love and romance with a huge dollop of sex and baked goods thrown right on the top. I loved it! 5 stars.
